Before The Way Back

The concept of Individualism has infiltrated our current society. The idea of ME first and self-love and appreciation has placed our society in a state of self-rapture. This has caused Americans to rebel against the “establishment” government, religion, etc. The connection of the “Religious Right” to a political party has contributed to this rebellion. The current rise in evangelical Christianity and mega churches have also contributed to the current rejection of religion altogether by some Americans (Mark Silk of Trinity College)


CNN recently reported that America is a less Christian nation that it was a mere 20 years ago. But it is not due to the fact that Christianity is losing out to other religions. It is actually a Rejection of religion altogether. The stats are below….

• 75% of Americans call themselves Christians. In 1990 this figure was 86%
• 1 in 3 Americans consider themselves Evangelical
• There are 8 million people associated with mega-churches. In 1990 there were less than 200,000.
• 1 in 5 Americans said they have no religious identity
• More than 1 in 4 does not expect to have a religious funeral

Other Findings indicate the following…….

• The percentage of Catholics in the USA has remained at around 1 in 4 since 1990
• The percentage of Christians has plummeted from 60% to 50%, since 1990
• Mormons make up a continued steady 1.4% of the population
• The percentage of Muslims has doubled since 1990, but remains statistically small (0.3%-0.6%)
• The number of religious Jews in the USA has fallen, However the number of those who consider themselves ethnically Jewish has remained the same

These stats come from a survey of 54,461 Americans between Feb and Nov of 2008. As an epidemiologist I can tell you that this number represents a good sample population so these results are a good snapshot (They also conducted the research in English and Spanish-can’t speak to their methods but the actual number is good)

First I would like to say that this is AMAZING!!!!! Secondly I would like to explain why I have posted this. The title of this post is “Before the Way Back”. I am a Christian (7th-Day Adventist) and part of my belief is in the fact that Jesus Christ is coming back to the earth. Before this happens I believe that Christians will experience intense persecution (worst than Nero, Constantine, etc). The Bible has described this persecution in Revelation and Daniel. My interpretation of this is that America (home of the free) will eventually stray from their “Trust in GOD”. A sudden disaster will strike and America will once again realize that their distrust in GOD is a contributor to the state of their nation. America will then come back to GOD in a zealous way that will thwart the concept of Free Choice. I just find this AMAZING!! It really is happening! I want everyone to get ready for Jesus to come. Even as I myself have just become serious about knowing Christ I want to tell others…..
